Tyler and Courtney never got along. Courtney had suggested they eliminate him first at their first vote-off decision, and they were at odds during the Dodge Brawl challenge. When Tyler was voted off during the Phobia Factor challenge, he resented how his team had decided to choose him instead of Courtney, who he believed had failed worse than he did.
Courtney and Tyler started on the wrong foot again when the CIT openly said in front of him that he had no chance at winning the talent show for the Killer Bass (and unfortunately, she was right), which earned the ire of the jock, especially when she called him chicken. When things truly became ugly when both Duncan and Courtney hit Ezekiel, Tyler was shouting threats at them, and ranting in the confessional how much he couldn't stand the couple.
However, Tyler's mood changed when he befriended Ezekiel, and his team won the challenge. He even encouraged Courtney to complete the next challenge, the Pit of the 100 Screams.
Lindsay was eliminated as a part of Courtney's scheme to get revenge of Harold, and when Tyler learned this, he was far from amused. He was very bitter towards Courtney, not letting down his anger over the incident throughout the whole season.
As if by habit, Courtney and Tyler started off bad again, with him openly declaring that she had no chance of winning after what she did last season. Courtney resented having this held against her, and thus the two were at odds. During the Train Race, Courtney was placed in the same team as Tyler, as well as Leshawna, Gwen and Hannah. Tyler, along with Leshawna and Gwen, decided to have some payback at Courtney in the form of mild torture, such as tickling her feet for a long time or giving her a wedgie. Even though Courtney threatened to sue them, Tyler feel satisfied with the payback, and was willing to bury the hatchet with the CIT.
